I thought of WoC when I was writing.

University wasn’t the first time I was teased about my hair, certainly. It was just the most memorable.

I’ve worked my entire education career with children from a diverse set of backgrounds. I ultimately decided not to bring up the experience of WoC in my article because, as a white woman, I don’t feel I have the experience or perspective to do that topic justice. I’d love to hear more about the perspective of WoC and how comments about their hair shape their view of themselves, and how they rally against it.
